While I awaiting the results of the Show Me the Spark! Contest (Flirting with Scandal was selected as a finalist), I learned that my contemporary series manuscript, Rough Riding Ranger received an Honorable Mention in the MARA Contest!
When did I start writing contemporaries? After I started reading them! Fellow RWA NYC author Hope Tarr introduced me to the Harlequin Blaze line. I read one and then another and another. Soon I was reading titles from all the Harlequin lines. And then one day, an idea for a romance between an Army Ranger and a horse instructor popped into my head. I started writing. On a whim, I submitted the initial chapters and low and behold the judges loved it!
More soon on the Show Me the Spark! Contest. But for now, I’m celebrating! Now back to the baby, who just discovered his toes.

Congratulations, Sarah, and what a great story! The writer’s journey is full of surprises, and none more wonderful than discovering a “voice” you never knew you had. Good luck!
Congratulations, Sarah! That’s fabulous. The MARA is a tough contest, too, so I’d say you’ve found another path on your road to success!

Congratulations, Sarah! Which Harlequin line have you decided to target with this story?
Congrats, Sarah! This is awesome news, so proud of you! We need to catch up soon – we had a great time in Italy and of course I could imagine you and your family absolutely loving Capri. Maybe I’ll get up to NYC sometime soon to meet the lil guy!
