Sarah's Recipe for Romance

Wit, humor, and a rakish hero determined to risk everything to win the heart of the woman he loves.

An Update: Courting Scandal

As you may have noticed, I’ve been absent from the blogging world for the past few weeks. Where have I been? Revising and rewriting. I’ve spent the last month editing my recently completed manuscript Courting Scandal.

In brief, I would describe this story as a Regency era battle of the sexes between London’s unofficial queen of schemes, Lady Amelia Spencer, and the reserved Duke of Thornhill.  The story unfolds in two parts: Part I, In which an Exchange of Favors leads to a House Party that ends in an Engagement and a Gunshot; and  Part II, In which a Scandal results in a Wedding that leads to a Misunderstanding and a room full of Courtesans.

What is next on my to do list? Write a detailed synopsis and a query letter. After that, I will likely complete one last round of revisions based on the feedback from my early readers (thank you!) before I begin reaching out to agents and publishers!

What is your process once you have completed a first (or second or third) draft of a manuscript?

  1. Your book, Courting Scandal, sounds really intriguing! Just from your description, I’d buy it. I think it’s enough to interest agents and publisher. I wish I could learn to sum up my stories like that.

  2. Sounds like you’ve been really busy and that’s good, taking your time with revisions is very important. Like Laurie said, it sounds intriguing and I can’t wait to read it. If you’re ever in need of a beta reader, I’m a historical addict. :)

Good luck with the rest of your revisions and the Synopsis and query letter. Hope you hook you an agent in no time. Let us know how it goes!!!

    Hugs,

    Anastasia

Congratulations on making it through revisions. I haven’t done enough to know what my process is, but I have done enough that I’m learning what my process shouldn’t be.

I love the bits you’ve given us. Wishing you the best.

A room full of courtesans? This I’ve got to read.

Thank you ladies of the Romance Roundtable for stopping by and sharing your support.

Alice, I’m thrilled the room full of courtesans intrigues you. It was one of my favorite scenes to write.

Renee, I too have learned through trail and error what my process should not be!

Anastasia,I just might take you up on your offer to read:)

Laurie, thanks for your support. I certainly hope agents and publishers fall in love with this story. I still have Flirting with Scandal on submission as well, so fingers crossed!

  6. Sarah, congratulations on getting your book revised. It sounds fab! Love the bylines. And look at all these Roundtablers popping in! Actually what I do when I finish a manuscript is try and get some distance from it so I can see the problems more clearly when I go back to it. In the old days, that usually meant putting it under the bed for six months. These days, that’s not possible but so far I’ve had things like trips to America between finishing and editing and that’s given me enough sense of separation from the book. GOOD LUCK!!!!
