Sarah's Recipe for Romance

Wit, humor, and a hero determined to risk everything to win the heart of the woman he loves... whether he is a Rakish British peer or a sexy US Army Ranger.

What’s in Your Carry-on?

As I mentioned in my previous post, I’m featured in the current issue of Jauntsetter!  The interview begins with a reference to my must have carry-on item: romance novels.

Whether I’m traveling by plane, train or automobile, I always have one or two on hand. Currently in my purse (yes, my purse is large enough to hold multiple mass market paperbacks in addition to my writing notebook and of course my wallet), I have an advance copy of Tessa Dare’s The Goddess of the Hunt and one of Stephanie Lauren’s Cynster novels. The Stephanie Lauren’s title is one I’ve read in the past, but you never know when you might be stuck in the subway or waiting for a plane.  Although I’m fairly certain that if I get stuck on the subway anytime soon, I’ll simply reread The Goddess of the Hunt from page one.

As anyone who has ever taken a crowded subway or train for their daily commute may know, the other passengers can’t help but glance at what your reading.  This especially holds true when you happen to be standing in front of a row of seats holding onto the rail above.  The people seated below you (if awake) can’t help but look up and notice that you’re eagerly turning the pages of a books whose title just might include the words “seduction,” “rake,” or perhaps “wicked.”  The title, combined with the cover image, may leave the other people on the crowded subway car wondering just what exactly you’re reading at that precise moment.

Of course, with the advent of the Sony E-readers and the Kindle, passengers can read whatever their heart desires without receiving odd looks from the half-awake businessman in the next seat.  Not to mention readers who fear being stuck on a runway without a book to read can now carry a virtual library.  I have yet to purchase an e-reader for myself, but when I do, I’m sure it will become the must-have item in my carry-on.

What’s in your carry-on?  Do you have an e-reader or Kindle?

And please stop by and read my interview on Jauntsetter!

Great post, Sarah! We travel a good amount as well, and of course, take the subway on a daily basis. Like you, a romance novel is a must! And oddly enough, I’m reading a Cynster novel at the moment too! (All About Love, just in case you’re wondering :) ) I recently got Stanza and Kindle for the iPhone and tried my first eBook last week! I have to admit, I loved it! Not only did it open me up to a market that I have thus far overlooked, it was soooo easy to read on the subway. I didn’t have to go back and forth between my music and reading (depending on if I got a seat), which can actually be a big hassle when you’re mashed in on both sides! LOL! I’ll probably never go completely eReader, but I do love having the option :) And FYI, I was so impressed with the eBook I read!

I don’t have an ereader yet, but I’m thinking they are a good idea. I’m sure I cave in and get one at some point.

I’d love to have a Kindle or an ereader. Right now, I never leave home without a romance, a notebook, and today I even had a writing book in my big old bag! I had to visit the dentist, so I expected some waiting around time.

Not to date myself, but women of a certain age use book covers for their romance novels so strangers on planes etc. will not see what they are reading. The Kindle sounds interesting. You are a constant source of great new information!
