Sarah's Recipe for Romance

Wit, humor, and a hero determined to risk everything to win the heart of the woman he loves... whether he is a Rakish British peer or a sexy US Army Ranger.

Happy Tuesday!

Tuesday is quickly becoming my favorite day of the week.  Last Tuesday featured a monumental, historic event: the Inauguration of President Obama.  Like many others around the country, I watched our 44th President take the oath of office, deliver a stirring speech, and attend a numerous balls, unable to tear myself away from the television.

After last Tuesday I’m sure you’re wondering what could possibly set today, Tuesday January 27th, apart from any other day.  In two words: new releases.  Yes, today a number of books I couldn’t wait to get my hands on are finally on-sale.  This morning I raced to the nearest bookstore with a list of titles to purchase. And now, as soon as I finish writing a few more pages in my current work in progress, I plan to read, read, read!

What did I purchase today?  Dark of Night by Suzanne Brockmann,  The Sins of Lord Easterbrook by Madeline Hunter, and What I Did for Love by Susan Elizabeth Phillips.  I also picked up a book for my husband (he needs something to read while I work through my newly purchased pile of books!).

I think now more than ever, it is important to buy books. As readers and writers, we must continue to suuport the book industry now so that when we arrive at the other side of our current economic situation, our favorite authors, book retailers, and publishers are not only still in business, but thriving.

What was the last book you purchased? Do you consider books a necessity? Do you find there are particular authors that send you racing to the bookstore? Which ones?

I recently purchased LOVE LETTERS OF GREAT MEN, by Ursula Doyle. It’s really a gift for an affianced friend, but I’ve enjoyed reading through it myself. Inspired by the fictional collection featured in the Sex and the City movie, it includes wonderful entries from Mark Twain, Beethoven, Lord Byron, Charles Darwin, Oscar Wilde…I could go on and on. So romantic!

Most definitely books are a necessity! I’ve been worried about bookstores and the book industry so I did almost all my Christmas shopping there this year.

As for authors that I’ll go straight out and buy, I’m with you on Suzanne Brockmann. I just picked up Dark of Night. An automatic buy is Anna Campbell, Christine Feehan, Gena Showalter, and Jayne Castle, to name a few. I also try and support authors I love that haven’t yet hit it big. So if my book dollars are between a big name and one who’s not there yet, I’ll pick the latter. I can always get the best sellers from the library.

Thanks for visiting the Romance Roundtable today!

I can’t resist a series — I simply can’t wait for the next one to arrive at the library. Which, (big confession here) is why I haven’t read a single Harry Potter book yet (agh) — I didn’t want to have to wait for the next one to come out, and so thought I’d just wait for them all to be out. Now I have to just have a big reading binge I guess.
