Puma, my Burmese cat, lives a very different life from her counterparts in the country. Instead of spending her days chasing mice and exploring the great outdoors, Puma is often found by the computer, hard at work.
The moment I walk away from the keyboard, Puma is ready to step in. There were many times when I was writing The Virtuous Courtesan that I would take a break in the hopes that Puma would help me with a tricky transition or edit my last few pages. Instead, my literary cat left line after line of the letter “Y” or elected to close the document altogether.
While I am seated at my desk typing away on my second novel, Puma enjoys reading romance novels. Her latest favorite? The Rogue and the Rival by Maya Rodale, a sign she has excellent taste! Thankfully, she shared her copy with me and we’re both looking forward to the next installment in the series.

Of course, a book is also a great place for a catnap . . .
Puma and I would love to hear your “literary” pet stories!

Travis works from home and our cat’s favorite thing to do is come sit right in front of the keyboard while Travis types, occasionally kissing Travis on the nose (and trying to sit on the keyboard).
Also from the look of those pictures, Puma is more productive than I am.
Sarah, what gorgeous cat pics! My best friend has just got a new Burmese kitten exactly the same color as yours. Toby is gorgeous too! Wwwaaaahhh! I wanna Burmese! Especially if they’ll write my books for me!
When I started writing, I had an old square Mac, when a Mac looked like a little box sitting on my desk, not the flat screened beauties they are now. My then kitten, Lydia, liked to sleep on top of it because it was warm, and occasionally she would bat at the cursor as it moved across the screen. As she got bigger, she moved to sleeping in my lap as I wrote, and when she got old, she slept in the cat bed at my feet–I would tuck my toes under her, because she was so warm. She’s gone now, but every time I go to write, I still look under my desk–just in case. Kitties are wonderful companions for writers.
